Mission Statement
The Professional Learning Committee is devoted to supporting the professional learning needed for Fullerton College educators—Faculty (full-time and adjunct), Classified Professionals and Managers–to improve student success. Staff Development support should contribute to this improvement not only in individual classrooms and student support areas, but across the campus as a whole. Staff Development believes this will best be achieved by encouraging shared learning and a culture of collaboration in order to become a truly learning-focused institution.
LPTop Initiatives
Teaching and Learning 2.0 Certificate– A 20 hour program designed to expand and strengthen staff skills as educators. Participants engage in professional learning across three categories of their choice, with a minimum of 5 hours in each category.
Adjunct Academy – A two-day training series that includes 10 hours of interactive workshops is designed to provide our adjunct faculty with information about our students and campus resources, as well as introduce participants to strategies to enhance student engagement, motivation, and active learning.
Professional Activity or Travel Request Funding – Reimbursement for travel and attendance at conferences or other professional development activities. To be considered, staff must submit a plan to disseminate their new knowledge to students and/or staff on campus.
Flex Day Activities – Departments can propose professional learning plans to replace or supplement the regular scheduled breakout sessions during Fullerton College’s yearly Flex Days.
Race-Conscious Certificate (RCC) – is meant to increase the threshold of understanding faculty, classified professionals, and managers have regarding their own ethnicity and the ethnicity of others; through the lens of critical race theory the RCC will address racism, anti-blackness, and implicit bias amongst people who identify as white and Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC). The need for the RCC stems from the SEA 2.0 plan in which the state asked community colleges to be race-conscious in equity efforts.
